In mrmayo’s class we are creating digital children’s books. In my group we have decided to make our book about a pumpkin named joe that wants to get bigger. He keeps on trying and finally when he waits long enough he becomes big. Our story is about overcoming obstacles and the moral is if you try hard enough you can succeed.

Hello everybody hows it going?

Now the reason I’m posting today is to instruct my readers on how to write a book for the little ones.

In a childrens book their are 6 main branches. These are things you should do when writing about these branches.

1. Theme

When writing about the theme of a story don’t yell it out. This means if the theme of your story is sad don’t write,”This story is sad”. Let the theme come out through dialog but not through narration.

Another thing you must do, especially in childrens  books are to always make your theme positive. For example this is a big NO NO: “then little Timmy’s bunny was eaten by a rabid cow. The End” this is not positive…….

2. Plot

When writing the plot move it forward with events and actions and also it may be a good idea to add a conflict to keep the readers attention.

3.Story Structure

At the beggening jum into the action.

At the end bring the story to a close.

4.Characters

Know your own characters.

Your main character should be someone people can relate to.

5.Setting

Set your story in a place that will be familiar or interesting.

6.Style and Tone

Write simply.

Use direct quotes.

Hi everybody-everybody today mrmayo asked us to post about our reading and writing interests.

I enjoy fantasy and science fiction and also like to read realistc fiction. Im also a big fan of war stories.

My favorite types of writing assignments are ones that involve writing a story or a poem.

Two issues that i am interested in are immigration and nuclear war.

Hi peoples its me again today mrmayo had us write an assignment and summerize chapters 5 and 6 of the book that we are reading (The Pearl by John Steinbeck).

Here goes:

In chapter 5 Kino goes a little bit crazy. First of all Juana (his wife) steals the pearl, but Kino steals it back. Then Kino finds people back at his hut and they are trying to attack him. Kino fights for his life, eventually killing a man.  Kino then finds they have destoryed his boat and burned his hut down. His brother hides him in his hut while he then spreads stories of Kino’s death. All of this, is beacuse of the pearl.

In chapter 6 Kino And his family are on the road. Kino makes camp and they talk about the people that attacked him. Then at night a man comes with a rifle, with tracking dogs. Kino is worried and he goes back to the campsite. He tells Juana and they leave as fast as they can. They journey into a wasteland and make camp. The hunters come and set up camp close to them but Kino is quick. He goes and kills the trackers and then journeys back to the village. Then Kino throws the pearl into the ocean, And the story ends.

Hi its one9 again and today mrmayo asked us to read an article titled “8 lottery winners that lost thier millions“. This article was about lottery winners that won the lottery and had crazy things happen! 5 out of the 8 got broke 1 went to jail and one is in debt for thosands. Not to good huh? Anyways we are also reading a book called The Pearl and the maincharacter just found a gigantic pearl!! For him this is like winning the lottery.

I predict that Kino (the guy in the book) is going to get in big trouble. For example Kino might be killed by nieghbores/people in the town near his village. Also his neighbores might pester him for money and perhaps even steal the pearl. All i know is no good can come of this….

Now i will be right back and go read chapter 3 of the pearl. Lucky for you and the magic of the internet you can read what Chapter 3 and how it realates to the article……..now:

Ok well i was right…everyone knows Kino got the pearl so all the merchants nad services got their wares ready. Then a docotor hears and he comes to kinos house. The doctor makes Kino’s son Coyoito sick and then charges them for his services. This is almost like the article because everyone wants some part of the fortune and others even hurt there person who got the fortune and thier family. All i kow is that i certainly wouldn’t want to be in that postion….not at all.
