In mrmayo’s class we are reading the biography of Fredrick Douglas. Then we had to pick 6 key scenes in the book. My scenes are as listed below:
Scene 1: Quote;”I would crawl into this bag and their sleep on the cold, damp, clay floor.” This shows the horrible living conditions of Douglas and how bad slaves had it back then.
Scene 2: Quote;”Our food was a coarse corn meal boiled. This was called mush.”This also illustrates how bad living as a slave was, and because of this might be the reason for the next quote.
Scene 3: Quote;”…..I left Colonel Lloyd’s plantation. I left it with joy. Just as this quote says, this is a turning point for Douglas, he is leaving the country and is hopeful for a better life in the city.
Scene 4: Quote;”We sailed out of Miles River for Baltimore on Saturday morning.” Once again this is a follow-up of the leaving of Colonel Lloyd’s plantation. Douglas is traveling towards what he hopes to be a better life.
Scene 5: Quote;”In the afternoon of that day, we reached Annapolis, capital of the state.”This shows that Douglas has finally reached the city and is hoping to leave the hard life of a plantation slave behind him.
Scene 6: Quote;”It was the face of my new mistress, Sophia Auld….brightening up my pathway with the light of happiness. As the quote says, Douglas feels happy seeing the kind face of his new master. He hopes that good things are to follow and he can begin his new life as a city slave.
