On Sunday the Redskins played the Browns. And there i was serving crappy food to drunk guys. It was actually pretty fun.
Let me back up, at my school the band raises money by getting a booth at FedEx field and then sending volunteers to man it whenever its a home game. So, on Sunday i went to the game with a friend and we went to help out. When we first got there we had to enter through a sub-level laundry room, then we got these really attractive burgundy jerseys, and then we took a giant service elevator up to the sixth floor.
When we got to our booth we had the tour, basically, it was a kitchen in the back, and a open space with a long counter that separated the booths workers from the masses. After seeing what was what we got our “training” which was just learning how to use the registers and how to poor fake cheese into cups for nachos. After that we were about ready to start.
When the game started we all got to our respective positions, me and my friend where working a register and the people started to trickle in. The first few customers were the unlucky ones, because they were our guinea pigs, thankfully everyone was pretty understanding that say, we couldn’t pour sodas into cups, or that we had trouble getting pretzels out of the warmer. After the first few everyone started to catch on and from there everything started to get a little tricky.
Once the game started and the majority of the crowd had gotten their food we got a little break but as soon as halftime came it started to get crazy. All the beer we had sold in the beginning had started to set in to our customers…..lots of drunken folk.
Anyways at halftime all these people wanted food so we had a good 100 to 200 people crowding around or booth. The 30 minutes of halftime actually went pretty fast, probably because i was rushing and working so fast. But we made it through halftime ok.
Then after halftime the third quarter rolled around, and that was when so people, in theory, could drive home sober. I’m not sure that worked out so well, because right before the third quarter everybody came running to buy as much beer as possible, and once we couldn’t sell anymore this lead to quite a few peeved drunk guys.
After that everything was easy, the game finished up, the Skins won, (go skins!!) and all the people went to their cars, to “drive” home “safety”. And that meant it was cleanup time, which i suppose went pretty well, and then it was time for us to go home. We left the game at around 10:00, and were home by around 11:00, which meant i went to bed at around 11:30, only to wake up at 6 the next morning, bright and early, ready for school.
Thats all for now,
